Eric Hager’s practice focuses on civil trial work with an emphasis on commercial litigation, mass torts, and international human rights. Most often, he focuses on litigation that seeks to hold large multinational corporations accountable for human rights abuses.
Eric practiced as a civil litigator in complex matters including consumer financial services, products liability, and labor and employment issues at the Washington, D.C. firm of Goodwin Procter LLP prior to joining Conrad & Scherer. While at Goodwin, Eric negotiated and administered settlements, worked on the successful defense of statewide and nationwide class actions, and served as lead attorney in numerous borrower lawsuits in the Washington region for a well-respected mortgage banking client. Additionally, Eric was responsible for researching and briefing a wide variety of complex legal issues involving both state and federal law, preparing all forms of offensive and defensive discovery, and drafting pleadings for a lawsuit involving complex causes of action and hundreds of millions of dollars in monetary damages.
Eric Hager is fluent in Spanish and much of his practice requires regular interaction with Spanish-speaking clients, witnesses, and experts. Eric currently works out of Conrad & Scherer’s office in Quito, Ecuador. He has completed coursework at the College of International Studies in Madrid, Spain, worked with Spanish-speaking clients during an internship at the Southeastern Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation of Brockton, Massachusetts, and worked on several matters requiring Spanish language skills while at Goodwin Procter LLP.
A Fulbright Scholar while attending the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, Eric Hager performed and published a comparative study of employee stock option use in U.S. and Canadian firms, titled “Do Employee Stock Option Grant Announcements Affect Shareholder Value?” The Journal of Employee Ownership Law and Finance, 15(3) Summer 2003: 15-41. Eric was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar while attending Columbia University School of Law, where he also served as articles editor on the Journal of Environmental Law.
